The United States remains strong , mostly thanks to its historically high volume wine production throughout California . But while grapes might be more resistant to droughts than a lot of agricultural production , this does not make them immune . Numbers have not yet been released , but early reports so far suggest that the critical drought afflicting California could finally be cutting into its viticulture industry , to the point where Napa Valley is considering putting a moratorium on new wineries to preserve those that are already in business .
